- Technical research on structural safety for LNG Cargo Containment System(CCS)1) Development of assessment procedure for Pump Tower’s structural safety
2) Development of assessment procedure for Insulation Panel’s structural safety
2) Development of assessment procedure for Insulation Panel’s structural safety
Assessment procedure for LNG CCS’ structural safety has been developed due to increasing internal/external needs and enlargement of LNG carrier. In case of insulation panel, its structural strength was assessed through linear transient FEM analysis under thermal load of -163°C and sloshing impact pressure and then the assessment procedure was developed. In case of pump tower, using the force on pump tower obtained by ship motion analysis and CFD analysis, its structural safety was verified and the assessment procedure was developed.

Upgrade of ship motion and wave load calculating program1) Improvement of KR3D code using discontinuous High-Oder Boundary Method(HOBEM):
One module is developed for a ship advancing in deep sea, and another module for a floating
ship in finite-depth water
2) Development of ship motion analysis program considering sloshing load
3) Development of ship motion and wave load calculating program in the non-linear Time domain

- KR’s ship motion and wave load program named KR-3D has been upgraded using the HOBEM instead of current constant panel method because the HOBEM
can give more efficient and accurate results than the current one. - An analysis program considering the coupling effect between liquid cargo sloshing and ship motion has been developed because the coupling effect is becoming
more important for ship safety as the size of LNG carrier and liquid cargo holds is getting larger. - Developing our ship motion analysis program in time domain, we will further serve customer’s needs by considering whipping/springing for extra-large size vessels.
