General

Korean Register of Shipping approved of test institutes where can be carried out the test required by procedure for Approvals of Manufacturing process and Type Approvals for diverse materials, equipments, hull and engine fittings, automation and electrical equipments to be used in marine structures to give help for the activation of shipbuilding materials and equipments industry and com- petitiveness of enterprises.With approved test institutes by Korean Register of Shipping, as the presence of surveyor of this society can be partially or fully exempted, it is possible not only to reduce the financial and time burden but also to expect a large contribution to the development of shipbuilding materials and equipments industry through relationships with institutes.

Approval of Manufacturing Process

Approval of manufacturing process is, on condition that the uniform quality of the products can be assured, to certify for the manufacturers that the manufacturing process complies with the requirements in Pt 2, Ch 1, 102. of the Rules and/or the relevant standards, where deemed satisfactory by the Society as results of carrying out the examination, tests and inspections specified in the Guidance prior to commencement of production and test of the product)

Type Approval

Type approval is to certify for the manufacturers of the materials and equipment for marine use that the materials and equipment comply with the provisions for the type approved products in the Guidance, where deemed satisfactory by the Society as the results of carrying out the examination, tests and inspection specified in the Guidance before installation on board

Design Approval

Design approval is to certify for the manufacturers that the drawings and documents specifying the particulars, construction, dimensions and materials of equipment for marine use may be dealt with as the standard design by conducting the approval of these drawings in advance, based on the requirements in Pts 5 , 6 and 9 of the Rules and other technical rules

Approval of Quality Assurance System

Approval of a quality assurance system is to certify for the manufacturers that their quality system complies with the requirements in the Guidance, where deemed satisfactory by the Society as the result of carrying out the plant audit specified in the Guidance and evaluating the capability of a quality assurance of the manufacturers, as suppliers

Manufacturer Approval

Manufacturer approval is to certify for the manufacturers who carry out a plant audit andbeing satisfied, in relation to manufacturing process and their quality system for themanufacturers of products (paints, fire protection materials, etc.) which are type approved butnot subject to individual product inspection, or the manufacturers who intend to issue Work'scertificate(W) in accordance with Pt 5 of the Rules or engine manufacturer.

Approval of Test Laboratory

Approval of test laboratory certifies the independent test laboratory which carries out the relevant test of equipment and materials related to the Rules. KR surveyor’s attendance in part or in whole maybe exempted, helping the manufacturers save their time and costs and enhance their productivity.
