We refer to MPA Shipping Circular No.4 of 2015 which informed the shipping community on the adoption of Resolution MSC.388(94) on Amendment to the Recommendation on conditions for the approval of servicing stations for inflatable liferafts (resolution A.761(18)), by the 94th Maritime Safety Committee of the International Maritime Organisation.
The amendment is related to existing subparagraph 5.11 of Resolution A.761(18) which allowed dated items with at least six months of shelf-life before its expiry date to be repacked into the liferaft at the time of servicing, even though the next service date of the liferaft may be 12 months to 17 months later if the maximum service interval extension is granted. This effectively leads to an undesirable situation of having expired items in the liferaft.
Resolution MSC.388(94) amended the existing sub paragraph 5.11 by replacing it with the following text:
“.11 all items of equipment should be checked to ensure that they are in good condition and that dated items are replaced at the time of servicing in cases where the expiry date falls before the next service date of the liferaft.”
