The IMO adopted amendments to MARPOL Annex VI at the 70th MEPC to enforce the mandatory collection of data regarding the fuel use of ships above 5,000 GT,
operating in international waters.
Before this, the EU adopted MRV shipping regulation to implement the compulsory
collection of data on and reporting of GHG and operational information on ships above 5,000 GT which are calling to, from, and staying in EU ports from 2018.
To assist shipping companies’ compliance with the regulations, KR, in collaboration with the Korea Shipowners’ Association held a seminar to address these ship energy efficien
cy regulations.
The seminar included: “IMO data collection system and GHG reduction strategy” (Mr. Lee Jung-Yup, Senior Surveyor of Machinery Technology Research Team), “Introduction
on EU MRV regulations and countermeasures” (Mr. Kim Jin-hyung, Senior Surveyor of Machinery Technology Research Team) and “Development of energy efficiency portal system of international shipping” (Mr. Kwon Hae-kyung, CEO of NGL).
KR provided valuable information for the industry representatives and answered many questions regarding ship energy efficiency regulations.
