KR held the inauguration ceremony of its 23rd chairman, Mr Lee Jeong-kie on 26 December 2016.
The ceremony was attended by 400 executives and staffs from KR.
In his inauguration address, Mr. Lee said “KR is facing many challenges following the prolonged downturn of the shipping and shipbuilding industries, and as a result of the liberalization of classification services in Korea. I am keen to support and enhance our services under these conditions”.
He emphasized the importance of “building a rational management basis, improving KR’s organizational culture by facilitating communications, upgrading survey systems, developing indigenous technology and strengthening KR’s marketing competence”
He said ‘all of the executives and staff of KR are captains, chief mates and helmsmen’ and urged; ‘let’s move forward to the greater ocean with wisdom, capabilities and passion, by setting a sail of harmony and unity to contribute to the progress of the nation as well as to KR and the maritime industry’.
Mr. Lee graduated from Busan National University with a bachelor's degree in naval architecture and started his career at Korea Shipbuilding Public Corporation in 1978. He later joined DSME where he worked until 1987.
Mr. Lee joined KR in 1987, and has held various senior management positions including KR country manager in Singapore and executive vice president in charge of KR's survey division and statutory division. He was elected as the 23rd chairman of Korean Register on 22 December 2016.
