The Korean Register (KR) has launched ‘SeaTrust-Frame3D’, a grillage structure evaluation software and an ‘automatic LNG fuel tank (IMO type C tank) load calculation program’, a newly included function in KR’s representative software, SeaTrust-HullScan.
The software and the program are the result of a four month-long joint development project undertaken with Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (HSHI), which began in June of this year.
The newly launched SeaTrust-Frame3D allows 3D modeling of complicated grillage structures and easily conducts strength evaluations using a post-processing function. It is expected to be widely used for assessing the strength of hulls and outfit support structures of vessels, and other steel structures.
The new automatic load calculation program for IMO type C LNG fuel tank* was undertaken as part of the joint project to improve clients’ design productivity and the engineering efficiency of LNG fueled ships, which are in increasing demand as a result of the IMO’s stricter emission regulations.
(* IMO categorizes LNG carriers’ tanks into 2 types, membrane tanks and independent tanks. The independent tanks are categorized into A, B and C type according to their characteristics.)
Ship designers can make errors when calculating design loads because of the complicated process and many different loading conditions. However, now the automatic load calculation program can replace the repetitive and complicated handwork, allowing the design works to be even more efficient and accurate.
Hogyun Park, the general manager of KR ICT solution team, said, “Through this collaborative development with the shipyard, we are now able to provide even better client-focused technical services that are needed in the field. This is just part of our ongoing commitment to offer engineering services that meet our clients’ needs, while providing better technical assistance with comprehensive design solutions that easily apply the classification rules.”
Seunghun Lee, the general manager of the hull outfit technology department in HSHI, added, “Thanks to the smooth collaboration between the two companies, these new highly efficient programs which will maximize user convenience can be launched. We look forward to seeing the improvement of the design productivity and quality which will follow as a result of this significant technical advance.”
More information about the SeaTrust-Frame3D and IMO C type tank load’s automatic calculation program can be found on the KR website (www.krs.co.kr).
