On September 15, KR hosted the 34th International Association of Classification Society (IACS) Survey Panel, by video conference.

While many international conferences have been postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, the 34th IACS Survey Panel meeting was held as scheduled as a result of the strong determination of the chairman Ko Jae-hyun (KR) via video conference.

Senior members from 12 IACS countries, including the United States and the United Kingdom, participated and discussed 50 pending issues, including the enactment/revision of the ESP Code, IACS UR, and PR, and countermeasures to mitigate the impact of the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

Chairman Ko Jae-hyun, who presided over the meeting, said, "There were many challenges holding this meeting, such as limited meeting time and poor communication due to the time difference between member countries, but as a result of thorough preparation, we covered the topics for discussion and made good progress."

The IACS Survey Panel is one of IACS’s six specialized committees, it is in charge of establishing and interpreting regulations and making recommendations relating to ship inspection. Recent changes include the relaxation of the requirements to measure thickness when conducting a close inspection of ESP Tankers, and the implementation of revised inspection regulations based on experience.
