KMSEMEC requested Approval In-Principle(AIP) of “Conceptual design of 8K Ammonia DF Bunkering Vessel” and received about Eighteen(18) conceptual technical documents such as G/A, Ammonia Tank design, BOR/Filling Calculation, PFD/P&ID, and completed the review them.
AIP refers to the approval of principles for conceptual designs that are not mainly manufactured in the field of shipbuilding, offshore and industrial plants. The purpose is to clarify the level of confidence and validity that the technology is appropriate for ships or offshore structures through the application of relevant codes, standards, rules, and standard provisions, engineering analysis and risk assessment.

“8K Ammonia DF Bunkering Vessel” provided engine specifications under development by MAN ES, presented basic specifications, ordering and operation plans in Navig8, and conducted a risk assessment (HAZID Study) by the Korean Register and based on this, KMSEMEC conducted basic design.
On the concept design of 8,000 CBM Ammonia DF Bunkering Vessel, a HAZID study was conducted for the purpose of reviewing the safety of the vessel and exploring the measures further enhancing its safety. The overall objective of HAZID study, which would be generally implemented at design concept development or initial design phase, is to understand various interactions between the target system and its surroundings, and interference between main facilities, so that engineers who are related to the target system development can identify possible hazards associated with the target system.

In order to increase the knowledge on the design and operation of 8,000 CBM Ammonia DF Ammonia Bunkering Vessel that has various novel features compared to the conventional vessels, and to identify potential issues or hazards that could have significant impact on the safety of the vessel, a HAZID study was carried out by a multi-disciplinary HAZID team, under the lead of KR.

LBP 118m x B 19.60mx D 9.45 Ammonia-propelled bunkering ships are equipped with 2 type C tanks of about 4,000m3, and adopt a pressurized storage method with a design pressure of 18barg (minimum design temperature 0℃, no insulation), and port/ Placed an ammonia bunkering station on Stbd.
Based on the major steel ship rules and related rules (Results of HAZID) and standards such as the IGC Code, IGF Code, and the Ship Safety Act, the basic design feasibility review was conducted to predict and respond to the appropriate ammonia application or adequacy of arrangement, structural safety, and error/emergency modes in advance.
