On 3 December, KR held a technical seminar with Hyundai Global Service to discuss ways to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the maritime industry.
Mr. LEE Hyung-chul, Chairman & CEO of KR, delivered a presentation on reducing the GHG of existing ships.
The seminar was part of the “Offshore Korea 2020” technical conference which was divided into two sessions, each with a range of presentations and Q&A opportunities with experts from KR and the wider maritime industry.
The first session shared the latest updates on ship GRG emission regulations (EEXI, CII) and the discussions at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC) meeting held in November. KR’s R&D team then presented their responses to the GHG emission regulations.
In the second session, experts from Hyundai Global Service, SK Shipping, Korea Offshore & Shipbuilding, and JOTUN explained each of their company's preparations in order to reduce GHG emissions.
The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has set the goal of reducing GHG emissions by 50% compared to 2008 by 2050, in accordance with its initial strategy which was laid out in April 2018.
The seminar also covered related items raised at the recent IMO MEPC 75th meeting and GHG issues for the maritime industry, the details of which were shared with the wider maritime sector through Teams on 4 December.
The seminar was conducted as a webinar and was broadcast live through KR and Hyundai Global Service's official YouTube on December 3. Anyone could participate free of charge, if they visited the official website of Offshore Korea 2020, on the day.
