The Ministry of Environmant recommends the following EGCS operations for all ships in New Zealand territorial waters.

1. preparing for entry
2. into NZ waters by carrying compliant low sulphur fuel to use when operating in sensitive
    environments as identified by the relevant regional authorities;
3. operating closed-loop scrubber functionality in zero-discharge mode and retaining any
    effluent on board until able to dispose of it at the next available port facility; and
4.  discharging any open loop scrubber washwater outside NZ territorial waters.

Although this guidance is non-statutory, it is recommended that the above options be implemented, so please be aware of EGCS operating when entering New Zealand territorial waters.
