Mr. LEE Seung-ku, General Manager of KR’s Legal Affairs Team, was elected as Chairman of the Expert Group on Law (EG Law) at the International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) on 22 September. Based on his experience and expertise in various legal matters, his election was attributed to his active participation and contribution within the EG Law. The chairmanship is for three years, starting in February 2021.

KR expects that Mr LEE’s appointment will demonstrate KR’s industry leadership in this area, raising its profile across the international maritime community.

Mr. LEE graduated from Seoul National University Law School in 1996, he has worked as a lawyer in law firms and public corporations, and joined KR in 2016 to serve as the GM of the Legal Affairs Team.

 
IACS was formed in 1968, to promote maritime safety and protect the environment, the organization is comprised of 12 major classification societies which provide survey and certification services to ships accounting for more than 90% of the current global fleet.

KR has joined IACS as a full member in 1988. The EG Law mainly conducts legal reviews within IACS, and acts as an advisor on various legal issues, working collaboratively with external legal organizations if needed.
