September 2020
On 1 September, KR expanded its range of remote survey services offered to customers, as a result of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic and reflecting the spread of digital-based services and lack of face to face contact. The remote survey services will be provided through KR’s domestic and overseas branches to minimize inconvenience to customers.
Remote survey is conducted via bi-directional communication with a vessel, by sharing photographs, video contents and digital images from the ship. As a result, it can be conducted effectively and confidently anywhere in the world without requiring a surveyor’s attendance on board.
The remote surveys are conducted with the authorization of the respective flag administrations and the society has seen a tenfold increase in demand for these surveys since last year when the service has been first launched. This experience will allow KR to respond effectively to any emergency survey requests while a vessel is still sailing.
The newly added remote survey services include
•Safety Radio Periodical Survey
•Mooring Inspection and;
•Multi Load Line related inspection.

In addition, in order to solve the limitations of time difference and location constraints, it is now possible for KR’s surveyors to provide remote inspection services from any of KR’s 60+ branches around the world, including Korea, a service which had until now, only been available from KR’s headquarters in Korea.
Mr. YOON Boogeun, KR EVP of Survey Division, said “Using our experience accumulated through the completion of many remote surveys, we carefully reviewed the items that can verify the ship’s condition ensuring the various standards conform to the same level as existing face-to-face inspections. KR will do its utmost to remain fully operational and accessible to its valued clients during these difficult and disruptive times."
The remote survey application is available on both the KR Homepage or via KR e-fleet.
