On 15 May, KR released the cyber security education tools; K-CS++ 2020, Beyond KR Cyber Security Service.
KR-CS++ is a cyber security education tool developed by KR, to help customers to prepare for the cyber risk requirements for ships and shipping companies that will be strengthened from next year.
Increasingly, as information and communication technology (ICT) is widely applied to the maritime business world, the risk of maritime cyber attacks on ships and ports has grown. Effective cyber security management and ship cyber security is more and more important. Furthermore, as from 1 January 2021, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will also enforce the resolution of the Maritime Safety Committee (MSC 428 (98)) strengthening cyber risk prevention measures for ships.
KR-CS++ 2020 includes a comprehensive cybersecurity training video and full cybersecurity practice commentary, which includes sample documents that can be immediately applied to operational activities and KR’s cybersecurity newsletter. The whole package is provided in a USB format, which can be used on any sailing vessel regardless of the communication conditions.
The cyber security education video includes the latest educational content that has been provided to domestic and overseas shipping companies, shipyards, and equipment companies since 2017. It consists of lessons like ‘an understanding of maritime cyber security’ and 'management practices for maritime cyber security' which describe how to implement effective risk management. Each lesson includes a Q&A session so that the ‘students’ can check their understanding of the content.
“We expect that the KR-CS++ 2020 cyber security training will benefit people in the maritime sector such as seafarers who have had difficulty in participating in collective training provided before now in other ways,” said Kae-myeong Park, head of KR’s cyber certification team which has led the development of this video. “KR-CS++ will be updated annually, and work is already underway for KR-CS++ 2021 which will be released next year to include more service forms and content, accessible in different formats such as on smart pads.”
Some of KR's cybersecurity training videos can be found at KR official YouTube.
