KR signed a memorandum of understanding on development for
nation’s first platform-based marine system with POS SM
On 13 January, KR signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with POS SM for the development of platform-based marine system between classification and shipping companies.
This MOU was signed to address the need for marine platform systems to exchange big data between companies efficiently. The importance of this requirement has grown over time, and now, information communications technology (ICT) integration is actively underway in the shipbuilding and shipping sectors, in line with the era of the fourth industry.
KR and POS SM are planning to increase the productivity and efficiency of ship operation management. Work will be simplified by providing a paperless service and applying business process automation (BPA) to their own IT systems.
Through this agreement, the two companies will cooperate on launching a platform-based system, which will serve the shipping company and the classification body. The system will provide services in the area of ship inspection and audit, international convention software, regulations on greenhouse gas emissions, and the automatic collection of CBM vessel data.
"We expect that this agreement will provide a foundation for securing big data for ships to be used in technology development and efficiently responding to requests for the establishment of electronic document exchange (EDI) systems from shipping companies and shipyards," said Lee Hyung-chul, Chairman & CEO of KR.
He added, "We will expand opportunities for joint research and development that can utilize KR’s independent ICT and ship technologies through cooperation with POS SM."
"The shipbuilding and shipping industry has entered an era of big data-based digitalization of ships across all sectors," said Kim Myeong-su, CEO of POS SM. "We will continue to expand technological exchanges in ICT with various companies as well as KR to establish an efficient ship operation management system."
