On 30 October, KR signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Samsung Heavy Industries, POSCO and DHI agreeing to work together on the 'development and application of C-Type LNG fuel tanks with high manganese austenitic steel' at Samsung Heavy Industries' R&D Center in Pangyo.
The signing ceremony was attended by Samsung Heavy Industries’ Director Jin-taek Chung, POSCO’s Chief of Energy and Shipbuilding Marketing Sang-chul Kim, DHI’s CEO Chun-seok Lee and Chang-wook Kim, Executive Vice President of KR’s Technical Division.
Through the agreement, each company has agreed to collaborate to develop and apply technology for LNG fuel propulsion tanks using high manganese austenitic steel, in order to secure competitive leadership across the industry.
The aim is to apply high manganese austenitic steel technology to the vessel as a high priority, as a result of significant collaboration between the organisations in the near future.
