- KR signed a joint research agreement on digital service with POS SM and also
presented a certificate of POS SM’s IT solution for CO2 emission management -
KR has signed an agreement with POS SM to jointly research digital services on ships. KR also presented a certificate of POS SM's CO2 emission management IT solution.
On August 13, KR signed an agreement with POS SM for the joint development of technology for assessing operational performance of ships and predicting condition-based maintenance of generator.
The agreement was signed to jointly study digital services to support the economic and safe operation of ships. In the future, the two companies will develop a failure diagnosis and prediction model by analyzing the conditions of major machinery equipment based on actual operational data at at sea.
"With the signing of the agreement today, we expect to lay a technological foundation for the era of autonomous ships," Lee Jeong-kie, KR Chairman & CEO said. "We will continue to introduce differentiated digital services through cooperation between the two companies."
"The shipping industry has entered an era of big data based land and sea ICT and ship digitalization and we will make digital technology put to practical use through various cooperation with KR," said Choi Im-yup, CEO of POS SM.
In addition to the signing ceremony, KR presented a certificate on the VESSELLINK, POS SM's IT solution for dealing with ship carbon dioxide emissions.
VESSELLINK, which is certified by KR, was jointly developed by POS SM and IT start-up company Lab021. It is an IT solution designed to support compliance with regulations on emission of carbon dioxide from ships managed by POS SM.
The companies expect there to be a growing demand for technology solutions to enable accurate emissions reporting. Currently IMO and European Union regulations require the reporting of greenhouse gas emissions, but the potential introduction of an Emission Trading System for shipping and further substantial regulations to reduce emissions will mean more accurate emissions data reporting capability.
Meanwhile, KR, an international certification authority for the EU’s Monitoring, Reporting Verification (MRV) regulation and the IMO’sData Collection System, has launched certification services for IT systems for ship's greenhouse gas verification data. This service is expected to help the marine industry secure sustainable competitiveness by activating the development of technologies for dealing with regulations on de-carbonation of ships.
*) VESSELLINK for Ship, a reporting program operated on ships, can be customized by shipping companies and can transmit data to land across various communication channels. The data transmitted to land is processed by VESSELLINK for shore which is a web-based service and provides solutions for shipping companies to deal with greenhouse gas regulations such as IMO DCS, EU MRV, and China's ECDS, and even provides ship performance analysis services.
