KR and Penta Security signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on 31 July agreeing to conduct joint research on the application and verification of ship cyber security technology solutions.

Under the agreement, the two companies will verify the cyber security solution applicable to ships based on KR's maritime cyber security certification capability and Penta Security's cyber security technology capability.

In addition, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) resolution of MSC.428 (98) is expected to strengthen the demand for cyber security risk management from 2021 and will cooperate in the risk analysis and design safety evaluation of cyber security systems.

As a leading company in the field of maritime cyber security, KR has established its own maritime cybersecurity guidelines and verification system to be aligned with the international cyber standards - ISO 27001, IEC 62443, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) framework, and the IMO and BIMCO guidelines. Through this, KR provides industry leading cyber security certification services for companies and ships, and cyber security type approval services for ship networks and automation systems.
