A KR-classed vessel was detained with an emergency generator load test failure during PSC inspection in Australia.
To ensure the ship's emergency generator in a proper working condition, the owners/operators are encouraged to carry out periodic tests and inspections on the critical equipment with its regular testing records and relevant documents onboard.
It is recommended to take photos of the load test and post them on or near the emergency switchboard (ESBD) as evidence, in case of the generator not being operational at the time of PSC inspection, which may help avoid the ship's PSC detention, if acceptable.
