KR has restructured its internal organization to maximize internal operational efficiencies and to focus more on R&D activities. The restructure came into effect on 1 January 2019.

The core improvement is to establish a new R&D (research and development) Division. The new division brings together all KR’s R&D activities in one area, to ensure that R&D across the organization is more strategic, coordinated and efficient.

The new division will focus on developing shipping 4.0 related technologies and future technologies. The R&D division now encompasses a newly established Digital Technology Center which is divided into four research teams; the Digitalization team, ICT Solution team, Cyber certification team and Information technology team.

The Digital Technology Center will play a leading role in transforming KR into fully digitalized classification society by enhancing its shipping 4.0 related technologies.

As part of the restructure, KR’s existing R&D Center has been moved under the new R&D Division, where its three teams; the Technology planning team, Ship& Offshore technology center and Future technology research team will conduct R&D activities into new and future technologies.

 
As a result of the 2019 restructuring, KR now has 6 division with 39 teams.
