This technical information contains the recent decisions of IMO’s MEPC (Marine Environment Protection Committee), class surveys of BWMS prior to installation, BWMS type approved by Administrations (IMO) and the US Coast Guard. It also includes the considerations for shipowners prior to BWMS Installation, characteristics of BWMS, example of BWMS installation onboard, a step by step process of how to choose, install and retrofit, and a feasibility study for retrofitting a BWMS.
This material can be used for internal and external technical seminars as well as education and training using the Ballast Water Management Convention as a reference.
Please note that technical information for post installation of BWMS will be published for surveyors and ship owners in due course.
