In 2015, KR opened the world’s first Green-ship Equipment Test Certification Center, called KR TCC, in Gunsan, Korea. Since then, KR TCC has provided technical services including marine diesel engine performance evaluation, equipment performance evaluation, ship fuel oil quality tests, corrosion tests and solution property evaluation, performance tests of hybrid power system, performance tests of fuel cells and more.

This month, KR completed building a laboratory for medium-speed engine cells enabling the society to expand its technical services to include analysis of combustion characteristics of medium speed engines, analysis of emission characteristics [NOx, PM, SOx and others], evaluation of abatement systems for emission reduction, tests with standards [NTC code, ISO 8178, etc.] and other related technical support.

With the establishment of this laboratory, KR has become the first maritime R&D institute in Korea to be equipped with laboratories for low, medium and high speed engines.

Dr. Changwook Kim, the head of KR’s technical division, commented “through KR TCC, KR continues to contribute to the technology and commercialization of engine makers and equipment manufacturers while complying with the enhanced environmental regulations of the maritime industry”.
