On 18 July, KR has hosted a ‘Joint Korea-China-Japan workshop on Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS)' which was organised by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries (MOF) of the Republic of Korea.
About 150 government and industrial experts from the three countries shared their latest policy and technology developments on the subject of autonomous ships. They also discussed solutions and ways of working together to enhance the relevant technologies.
In the first part of the workshop, the Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China, the Ministry of Transport of the People’s Republic of China and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transportation and Tourism of Japan outlined the direction of their autonomous ship policies.
In the second part, the autonomous ship technology trends in the three countries were discussed. KR presented its big data analysis on economic operation, Condition Based Maintenance (CBM), cyber security authentication and other services.
KR’s Chairman Lee Jeong-kie said, "Today's workshop aims to share knowledge about the policies and technologies in Korea, China and Japan relating to autonomous ships, which is a key component of the fourth industrial revolution. I look forward to future workshops will be held to take this work forward."
