 KR General Meeting 2018        

KR held its 56th General Meeting on 27 February.  The meeting included the approval of the annual settlement 2017 following the presentation of the status report which detailed member changes amongst other things.

KR has proactively handled the difficult management environment which has resulted from the extreme downturn in the international shipbuilding/shipping industry, the liberalization of the Korean Government’s classification system and the designation of the society as a public service organization.

KR prepared for such difficulties by strengthening its competitiveness and implementing an emergency management system. As a result, KR has made some significant achievements such as increasing its new build market share by 3.2% year on year and maintaining the surplus.

At the meeting, KR’s Chairman and CEO Mr. Lee Jeong-kie said “We can start to see signs of recovery in the maritime economy” and “based on this, KR will work to successfully transform itself into a digital class in light of the 4th industrial revolution, while contributing to world maritime safety and enhancing KR’s international profile, when I take up the role of Chairman of IACS in July 2018.”
