The worlds major shipping associations have added the provision and maintenance of a ‘Cyber Security Countermeasures Procedure’ to the checklist when conducting a RightShip assessment (a ship approval system established by three of the major operators in the coal and iron ore market - BHP, Cargill and Rio Tinto) and TMSA (Tanker Management and Self Assessment), demonstrating that the shipping industry’s interest in the cyber security is heightened.

Reflecting this trend, KR has visited client companies in the UK including Dao Maritime, Zodiac Maritime, Andros Maritime Agencies, Songa Shipmanagement, Anglo-Eastern (UK) to deliver bespoke technical seminars on marine cybersecurity.

In the seminar, KR discussed the need for heightened security using case studies of recent cyberattacks, managing a security incident and conducting cyber security risk assessments. The client companies appreciated the detailed discussion and welcomed the opportunity to discuss the issues, expressing further interest in KR’s technical cybersecurity consulting services.

KR provides shipping, ship management companies and manufacturers with cybersecurity services including technical consulting and certification.

Last October, KR published ‘Guidelines for Maritime Cybersecurity’ creating a cybersecurity system which can be included in the ship survey process.
