Representatives from KR have given a specialist lecture to students at the Department of Maritime and Logistics, Jade University, Germany.
The lecture was the first teaching activity to be delivered as part of a new memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between the two organisations.
The Dean of the Maritime and Logistics department, Prof. Dr. Ralf Wandelt, welcomed
KR’s General Manager of its Hamburg office, Byung-Sun Min, and Michael Suhr,
KR’s Technical/Commercial Director for Germany, to the department’s simulator building.
Byung-Sun Min and Michael Suhr talked to the students from the Nautical, Maritime and Port Economics courses about the key issues and challenges in classification, giving them insights into the specialist technical expertise offered by KR, across different sectors. The in-depth discussion also covered different scenarios and experiences of port state control inspections around the world.
Jade University is the leading training establishment for Master Mariners in Germany and KR is pleased to support future maritime professionals, and to educate them about the work of an international classification society.
Under the MOU, KR has also given Jade University library five copies of the "KR-CON Database". The software which is continuously updated, brings together and makes accessible the latest regulations from the International Maritime Organization, guidance and rules from KR, and relevant information from all of the main flag states.
The lecture is planned to be an annual event, and in the future KR hopes to develop opportunities for internships and ways to support students working on their final theses.
