KR has recently completed the plan approval and structural safety assessment for its major hull structure; the 180K Membrane Type LNG carrier. It also hosted a technical seminar to discuss the results of the project on 10 August 2017. The carrier was contracted by SK Shipping and is being built by Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI).

The project is very significant, as it is HHI’s first 180K Membrane Type LNG. It has
been designed through the application of KR’s Rules, which confirmed the major structural design by verifying safety, based on KR’s structural analysis technology.
In addition, responding to the request of SK Shipping, KR provided the shipping company with technical services; carrying out analysis and appraisal of the whole
ship’s structure, as well as conducting spectral fatigue analysis.
Furthermore, the project is the first case to establish the rule of FSA2 (Fatigue Life Assessment based on hold analysis) and its application to appraise fatigue life of the vessel.
