KR held its annual technical seminar in Singapore on 27 July 2017, with 150 attendees from major shipyards, shipping companies, financial institutions and academic circles.

 

The KR Singapore seminar is held annually, and plays an important role in promoting KR’s technology by sharing and discussing the latest technical issues with local representatives within the industry. This year’s seminar covered KR’s recent R&D activities and provided details on recent international conventions and environmental regulations.

 

KR’s Senior Vice President, Mr. Kim Yeon-tae received enthusiastic responses from participants on his “Prediction of ship’s speed in seaways” presentation, which estimated the reduction of service ship speed and increment of total fuel consumption – analyzing wind and wave statistics against the ship’s route, roughness of hull surface and aging of engines.

 

Mr. Jo Sung-chul (Senior Surveyor, KR) shared recent convention information presenting a “Regulatory Update” and Ms. Nam Ri-kyung (Surveyor, KR) explained the environmental regulations of the EU (European Union) and IMO (International Maritime Organization) to reduce greenhouse gases by introducing “EU MRV & IMO DCS”.

   

Mr. Bob Maxwell (Managing Director, Bernhard Schulte Ship Management) was invited as a guest speaker, and had an active discussion with participants on various technical issues through his presentation titled: “Fuelling Operations – Providing the fuel supply for LNG-powered ships”.

   

After the seminar, KR’s annual Singapore reception was attended by 180 industry professionals; strengthening the network between the local maritime community and wider organizations.

The 5th KR South East Asia Committee 

 

KR held the 5^th South East Asia Committee on 28 July, discussing major issues with its

14 members. These members are influential figures from the maritime industry in the

South East Asia region.

   

KR discussed its recent technical activities and R&D results with the Committee, sharing

valuable information on recent convention trends – continuing cooperation and

ensuring mutual progress.
